I will say that as a DM and a player, that’s not super satisfying, and I’d want to either just handwave or find some other way around that. 1 Mdunlap22 View User Profile View Posts Send Message Join Date: Posts: 1 Tell me if this will work. There really isnt a good way of dual wielding crossbows in 5E.

correct? Strictly as written, that’s correct. You can wield one and fire the same one twice using the extra attack feature as long as your other hand is free to load it. Hypotetically: i have a rapier in my main hand and a hand crossbow in the off hand Attack action with the main hand, crossbow expert kicks in, bonus attack with hand crossbow the round after that i can’t shoot with my crossbow because i needed a free hand to reload. Ammunition: You can use a weapon that has the ammunition property to make a ranged attack only if you have ammunition to fire from the weapon. So the answer is no, you cannot dual wield hand crossbows then since one hand needs to be available to load it as part of the attack. Thank dan, but what about reloading As written you still need to reload the hand crossbow as normal.

You add you ability modifier to all attacks as normal using Crossbow Expert.
#ONE HAND CROSSBOW 5E MOD#
You have a character who wants to use a Hand Crossbow in one hand and a rapier in the other w/ Crossbow Expert.ĭo you add your dex mod to the crossbow shot, or does it count as dual-wielding?ĭo you care about reloading while holding a sword? It is not using the two-weapon fighting rules.
